Ba Ria - Vung Tau promotes its marine tourism potential
Each year, Ba Ria – Vung Tau’s tourism industry maintains a relatively high growth rate and makes a positive contribution to the province’s overall economy. The number of tourists to the province increases by an average of more than 12.9% annually, while total tourism revenue grows by over 15.9% per year.
As a province located in the Southern Key Economic Region, Ba Ria - Vung Tau has strengths in the marine economy, including: developing modern, environmentally friendly industries; being Vietnam’s largest seaport hub, serving as a transshipment port for the entire Mekong River Basin; being a logistics service center; a region developing high-tech agriculture; and especially, a regional and national tourism hub reaching out to the international level.

In terms of natural and human resources for tourism, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has over 305 km of coastline, of which more than 100 km consists of beautiful sandy beaches, forming many swimming beaches for tourism development. In addition to marine resources, Ba Ria - Vung Tau has mountains, rivers, primary forests, the world’s Ramsar mangrove forest; and Con Dao district, consisting of 16 islands near international maritime routes, offering rich potential for marine tourism. The province also has many mountains with beautiful terrain and landscapes such as Nui Lon, Nui Nho (Vung Tau), Nui Dinh (Phu My), Nui Minh Dam (Dat Do), which are forming international-scale tourism complexes. There is one special national historic site (Con Dao prison), 28 national historic sites, 20 provincial historic sites, and many spiritual heritage sites… These advantages enable diverse tourism development linked with culture and spirituality…
In addition, there are traditional craft villages such as lacquer painting, bronze casting, rice paper making, wine brewing, and seafood processing in Phuoc Hai Fishing Village… combined with the development of high-tech agriculture, producing products such as chocolate, cocoa, Lekima tea, Ganoderma mushrooms, and Bau May pepper… contributing to promoting community tourism associated with the province’s traditional craft villages.
According to Mr. Trịnh Hàng, Director of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Department of Tourism, as a province with great tourism potential, especially marine and resort tourism, Ba Ria - Vung Tau has all the factors to develop into a major tourism center of the Southeast region, as well as nationally and internationally. Therefore, for many years, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee have drastically and synchronously implemented many solutions to invest in important infrastructure works to promote tourism development.
In recent years, Ba Ria - Vung Tau tourism has developed quite well. Currently, its facilities are increasingly modern with 1,509 accommodation establishments offering more than 30,623 rooms. Among them, 89 establishments are classified from 1 to 5 stars with 8,522 rooms (10 five-star hotels, 17 four-star hotels, 24 three-star hotels, 17 two-star hotels, 21 one-star hotels); there are 45 tour operators in operation, including 23 international tour operators and 22 domestic ones.
